The Training

Our 2-week instructor training course begins in December and is designed to prepare you for the Austrian “Anwärter” Level 1&2 instructor exams. Our team of coaches will fine tune your ski technique in all the areas, including basic plough skiing, carving, short turns and rhythm changes.

When your training is complete, you will be ready to take on the Level 1&2 exams and then immediately begin working as a paid ski instructor in Austria at your ski school.

  • Student must be at a high-intermediate level, with the ability to link turns on black runs as a minimum.
  • Students must be conversational in German.
  • Additionally, any of the following languages would be beneficial, but not essential; Dutch, Danish, Swedish or Russian.

Accommodation

Your accommodation included on the program is in a comfortable, 3* Hotel with your breakfasts and evening meals included each day for the full duration of your stay.

The exams, lectures, theory and video analysis will all take place from the hotel base, meaning you are perfectly placed during your course.

FAQs

You will earn your Austrian L1&L2 Instructor Licence (also known as an Anwärter Licence), this is an internationally respected instructor qualification which you can use to teach in most countries around the world.

We are able to offer you a guaranteed, paid ski instructor job in a top Austrian ski school once you have completed your training. (*spaces are limited)

Please see our Job Guarantee Guide for full details on the job placements and conditions.

If you don’t need or want to work after your course then that’s fine too, just let us know and we won’t arrange your job. Of course, you need to be legally allowed to work, so a working holiday visa or suitable passport will be required to qualify for our Job Guarantee. See our Essential Visa Guide for more info…

There are many variables that will affect both your work and your subsequent wage, such as snow conditions during the season, the economic climate, how mature and diligent you are as a worker, what qualification you hold and which ski school you work for.

AUSTRIA: the contract you have will give you a standard monthly wage for Level 2 instructors of €1.000 – €1.200 and with tax, health care, pension contributions deducted you may have cash in your hand of €700 – €1.000 per month. You will be taxed in Austria but you may apply to have that tax refunded if you did not exceed the tax band in your own country. We have had course participants make as much as €1.250 per month and as little as nothing when in a given month they were unemployable due to injury or finding themselves so low on the priority work list due to bad time keeping or poor work ethic that the ski school avoided using them. The ski schools will always favour instructors who are motivated and professional and avoid using poor workers except for very busy periods when they are desperate for staff.

Remember, what may be a gap year or season of fun for you is a professional business for your employer.

Our Anwärter Courses in Austria are located in Kaprun – Zell am See, our home town.

In our professional opinion, this course is not suitable for 95% of our students. The Fast Trax Course is ideally suited to very experienced skiers who speak German fluently and have a good grasp of technical skiing – around 5% of our students.

The ideal time frame to learn what is required, and to allow sufficient coaching to bring your skiing skills to instructor level is 5-6 weeks. If you don’t think you have the experience required for this course then check out our original, and most popular Anwärter Ski Instructor Course.

You must be a minimum of 16 years old before you arrive into resort on our Austrian Courses.

You must be a minimum of 18 years old before you arrive in resort for our Canadian or  Argentinian Courses (unless parental consent is obtained).

You must be a minimum of 18 years old to join any of our courses or internships which rely on a working holiday visa.

Although SIA courses are amongst the largest in the World, we manage to maintain very intimate training groups of between 4 and 8, but with no more than 8:1 students per trainer in Austria, Argentina and France and 10:1 in Canada. This allows us to match similar ability levels per group and means no student should ever feel as if they are falling behind, or being held back because of the group they are in.

We have various options for accommodation on our courses, all of which are very comfortable. We use a combination of shared apartments, houses and chalets. There are options to to include a single room, half board meals or both! (subject to availability and supplement). See our Accommodation page for more details on your options.

YES! As an instructor, ski schools will offer you subsidised staff housing as part of your employment contract. This is generally basic living, but a fun and very social environment with your fellow instructors and not to mention a very cheap way of living in a ski resort, with most ski schools only charging between €4 and €10 per day.

Note: If your course does not include a Job Guarantee or you do not wish to take up your position then accommodation will only be included during your course dates.

Sure! We love it when friends come together and share this amazing experience – after all sharing is caring! We can make sure you live together and also work in the same ski school together too so you can enjoy the time and make memories forever… just be sure to let us know who you’re travelling with.

We are so confident that we offer the very best value courses in the industry that we have an SIA Price Guarantee. We pride ourselves that we offer more training, higher quality coaching, better off-hill programs and more fun aprés events than any other course.

That’s why if you find a better value comparable course anywhere, not only will we match the course cost, but we will also give you an additional €100 off your course fees for good measure!
